God’s Gift of Remembering

The end of 2018 is drawing to a close and the beginning of 2019 is almost here. I do not know what it is about the ending of a year and the beginning of another year that causes us to become more reflective. You will already have noticed that some have already begun recounting the top movies for the year, the top songs (if you’re one to pay attention to the Billboard 100), top concerts, top books, etc.

One of the graces that God gives to us is the ability to remember. Some may not remember like they once did, but God still grants us the grace to remember even what seems to be small and inconsequential. One way to make use of God’s gift of remembering is to remember the various ways God has been gracious to each of us in the previous year. God’s grace does not end when we reach a certain age; rather God strengthens us to fix our eyes on Jesus (Heb. 12:2-3). As we look back and recall God’s grace in 2018, we are reminded that his grace will continue to uphold in 2019 too.
