Advent Means Preparation

Advent is upon us once again. This also means our schedule gets busier. The month of December often feels like a blur because we go from organizing to budgeting to shopping to wrapping to stressing to eating. If we are not careful, we can become too busy to slow down and reflect why we celebrate Advent.

We celebrate Advent because the arrival of the Lord Jesus in the manger is central to the biblical storyline. All of God’s promises about the coming Savior are now on the verge of being fulfilled. Something wonderful is about to happen.

The promise of a future offspring who would crush the head of the serpent is now here. The promise of the offspring through whom all the families of the earth would be blessed is now here. The promise of the king who would sit on David’s throne and rule forever is now here. All of these promises are fulfilled in the Lord Jesus. Advent is more than traditions, presents and spending time with family. Advent is preparing our hearts for Jesus as we sit between hallelujah of the resurrection and the come Lord Jesus at the end of the age.  May we slow down and dwell on the Lord Jesus this Advent Season.
