What is love?

What is love? The answers offered to this question are as many as the day is long. How does the Bible answer this question? The answer to this question depends on the context. One way is the Bible defines love comes from 1 Corinthians 13. This is sometimes referred to as the Love Chapter. In 1 Corinthians 12 and 14, Paul instructs the Corinthian church how they ought to practice their spiritual gifts whether. Every spiritual gift has been given by the same Holy Spirit.

Paul’s point is even if we can fathom the deepest of mysteries but have not love, we are nothing but a sounding gong. Or if we have enough faith to move the Rocky Mountains but have not love, we have gained nothing. The manner in which our spiritual gifts are used is of the utmost importance. When we teach or serve or walk in faith, we must do so in love for God and for neighbor because love is patient, kind, does not envy, is not arrogant, is not irritable, does not rejoice in wrong-doing, but bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things (1 Cor. 13:4-7). This is love.
